DVD-RAM for backup?
Is ther ever a possibility of DVD RAM being supported under RISCOS? I gather these drives ie Lacie DVD-RAM & DVD-R/RW are multi readers and will burn certain formats as well as random write DVD-RAM. Try http://www.eesox.com/riscos/index.html perhaps? The Eesox SCSI card mentioned on this page does indeed claim to

These drives support DVD-R and DVD-RAM. (Panasonic has since introduced newer drives such as the LF-D521 and the SW-9571 that add support for DVD-RW.) I took a DVD-RAM disc recorded in a Panasonic DVD-R/DVD-RAM stand alone player/recorder (DMR-E30) and inserted it into my Panasonic computer drive.

Microsoft Will Support All Major Writable DVD Formats In Future ...
I didn't mean to imply that the DVD-RAM format was crap. It has its uses. It's actually used as an archival disc format because of the high error detection and correction features, and the protection of that caddy cartridge. What I basically meant was that the DVD-RAM support for the LG drives is kind of pointless,

DVD RAM being support under RISCOS?
What's Linux support for SCSI DVD RAM drives like? I vaguely remember reading somewhere that it's possible (with some minor kernel modifications) to use such drives (with DVD RAM media) as a SCSI harddrive. Is this correct? Yes, I'm using a Panasonic SCSI DVD RAM, and it can be used almost like a harddrive.

If this is true then every DVD player should read DVD-RAM and support -VR format. No because -VR is not -V. You are getting the spec confused with the media. Take some time and walk in a consumer electronics shop and check if all players sold support DVD-RAM. Are all players sold support DVD-RAM?

DVD-RAM, by comparison, is inherently a sectored, random-access format (like a hard drive), so it doesn't need packet-writing software to "simulate" this. DVD-RAM support is native on Windows. You can write to DVD-RAMs from any program (some packet-writing software only supports dragging and dropping to the disc

If you want to interact with a RAM based set top recorder, having at least a DVD-ROM with -RAM read support to allow you to copy the files to your PC from your set top unit, edit them then re-author to -R is a necissity IMO. DVD-RW for Linux, a brief survey
I want the DVD-RAM for data. I have an all SCSI system, so I'd get a SCSI DVD-RAM. Does SCSI DVD-RAM require any special hardware support that I don't have with this board? Or does DVD look like a fancy CD-ROM to the hardware, and thus not require any additional support? Thanks.
